Julie Tanaka provides funding for commercial real estate acquisitions and refinancings as well as new developments and large-scale retrofits and rehabilitation projects. Projects range from $5 million to more than $500 million. Julie cut her teeth in the boom and bust of the 1980s and ‘90s in the commercial construction lending group of a leading national lender. Julie brings decades of experience in M&A, commercial real estate investment, distressed assets, structured finance, development and workout as an executive, investment advisor and loan officer. Through her leadership positions with banks, securities and big four accounting firms, Julie has a strong working knowledge of corporate finance, commercial real estate asset underwriting and workout, debt and equity placement, portfolio management, valuation, acquisition and disposition, and litigation support. Julie continues to assist the local and national financial community including banks, investors and the FDIC seeking investment returns and growth initiatives. Julie earned her BS in Finance and Marketing from the University of Minnesota, School of Management and her MBA from Columbia University. A twice-earned “Top 20 Women in Finance”, “Women to Watch” and "Minnesotans on the Move" award recipient, Julie is very active in the business community. She is also a member of the Alerus Financial Strategic Advisory Board and a member, past board member and the past President of the Minnesota Association for Corporate Growth where she launched the ACG MN BOLD Awards program. Julie is a true Minnesotan, having spent most of her life in the Twin Cities and western suburbs. In her spare time, she loves investing, adventure travel, scuba diving, kayaking, boating and biking — just about any activity as long as its outdoors with friends and family. Julie resides in South Minneapolis with her husband Taro and teenagers, Vincent and Kimi, along with their Kelpie, Boo.
